Item: 1865 Oak Bed & Dresser Set

This very old oak bed & dresser set was made by a fairly well known furniture maker between 1865-1870.  I can get more info if needed.  The tell tale sign is the extremely unusual dove-tail type joints on the drawers (see detail photo below).  It's one of a kind for sure!

The set is in very good shape with the only distractions being scratches, etc on the top surface of the dresser (nothing some stain wouldn't improve tremendously) and the mirror has some silvering missing - but not too bad.  You can see a bit of this in one of the photos.

My wife and I just saw a nearly identical headboard/footboard set WITHOUT the matching dresser in an antique shop in Blissfield this past weekend (October 17, 2003).  They wanted $650 (on sale!).  I'm asking $650 for the entire set.  I will even deliver it for you if you live with a 2-3 hour drive from Toledo, Ohio.  It's currently being stored in my dad's garage and I'm sure he will want it out before the snow starts to fly!

Dresser measurements: 43"W x 20"D x 33"H, with mirror: 76" H

Footboard: 33"H x 56 1/2"W
Headboard: 54 1/2"H x 56 1/2"W
Side Rails: 72"L (standard antique full)

The mattress required for this bed would be about 54"W x 72"L.  I searched the web and found the graphic below at www.abed.com.  Seems a standard Full size bed today is 54" x 75".  I was told that 125 years ago, beds were made shorter because people were shorter.  No big deal though.  You can use any side rails (with the correct hook mechanism). You might also be able to get a 54" x 72" full box spring and mattress set.  Although I wouldn't recommend that.  I used standard 75" rails when I had this bed set-up in my house 10 years ago.  In fact, now that I think about it, I had this bed set-up with a standard full size soma water bed (it used water filled tubes inside a mattress shell and standard sheets).  You should be able to use either 75" or 80" rails without any trouble.  The mattress sets for those are standard sizes today.
